Jessenius Faculty of Medicine (Slovak: Jesseniova lekárska fakulta) is one of the thirteen faculties of Comenius University – the oldest and most prestigious university in Slovakia. Located in Martin, it is the only faculty of the university based outside Bratislava.
The faculty’s main teaching hospital, Martin University Hospital, is consistently ranked among the best in the country — holding the second place nationwide as of 2011.
Jessenius Faculty offers a 6-year English-language General Medicine program, which leads to the internationally recognized title of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). In addition, the university provides PhD programs in medicine and dentistry, as well as Master’s programs in nursing and public health.
Since 2001, the faculty has been publishing its own scientific journal — Acta Medica Martiniana (AMM) — which features original research and review papers in medical, biomedical, and nursing sciences.
Jessenius is also home to three National Centers of Excellence, funded through the EU Science and Research Program, focusing on perinatology and pulmonology research. These centers are recognized for their contribution to medical innovation, advanced methods, and breakthrough discoveries.
🩺 Medicine at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin
The Medicine program at UPJS in Košice is a 6-year full-time program taught in English. It combines modern theoretical education with extensive hospital and clinical practice.
The tuition fee is €11,500 per year. Payment can’t be split into two instalments.
All admission exams are held online. Admission test exam dates for 2026/27 are:
– Saturday 28th of March 2026 (application deadline 14th of March 2026)
– Saturday 27th of June 2026 (application deadline 13th of June 2026)
– Friday 7th of August 2026 (application deadline 24th of July 2026)
You may register for the exam more than once!
Internal regulations govern the admission process at JFMED. To be able to study at JFMED, you must meet the following criteria:
University guides in Chemistry [click] and Biology [click] will help to understand the scope of the admission exam and provide you with sample of questions from previous intakes, so that you know what to expect. Both guides include more information about the structure of the exam.
Documents before entrance exam:
1. Signed AIS application – the completion of this application is done electronically. Finally, this application must be printed out and signed. The procedure is not very pleasant – or easy – to go through. If you will have a problem with the AIS (or do not want to do it yourself) call or write to us. We will help!
2. A scan of your passport (front page containing your picture and basic personal information)
3. A copy (scan) of your End of the Secondary Education Certificate (at this stage, the Certificate does not need to be translated into Slovakian). If you still do not have your Certificate, please contact with us and arrange for it to be submitted at a later stage.
4. A copy (scan) of Certificate of Fitness – a note issued by your doctor confirming that you are able to study at the university level. University accept Certificate of Fitness issued in the English and German language. The Certificate must be legible, signed and stamped by the doctor. There is no prescribed format for the Certificate of Fitness, you can use one issued by your doctor or this template.
5. Confirmation of admission fee (€70) payment. When making the BACS transfer, please ensure that in the payee reference field you provide the payment details as it appears in your application payment order, so that we can allocate the payment correctly.
Documents after passed exam
Upon successful completion of the examination:
1) End of School Leaving Certificate
2) Doctors note/confirmation stating your overall fitness to study at a university level.
