Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (UPJS) is one of the most renowned academic centers in Slovakia, attracting students from around the world for many years. Its Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry are particularly well-regarded, offering modern study programs in both English and Slovak, combining high-quality education with affordable study costs. Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was founded in 1959 and has since earned a reputation as one of the leading academic institutions in Central and Eastern Europe.

The university is named after Pavol Jozef Šafárik, an eminent philologist and historian of Slavic culture. UPJS offers studies across five faculties: Medicine, Natural Sciences, Law, Philosophy, and Informatics & Mathematics. The university places strong emphasis on scientific research, international cooperation, and a high standard of education, as confirmed by international rankings and academic quality certifications. The Faculty of Medicine, established at the same time as the university, is its oldest and most prestigious unit.

🩺 Medicine at UPJS in Košice

The Medicine program at UPJS in Košice is a 6-year full-time program taught in English. It combines modern theoretical education with extensive hospital and clinical practice.

The tuition fee is €13,000 per year, and payment can be split into two instalments.

🦷 Dentistry at UPJS in Košice

The Dentistry program at UPJS in Košice lasts 5 years and is conducted entirely in English. It focuses on practical training from the early years, preparing students for clinical work in international environments.

The tuition fee is €13,500 per year, and payment can also be made in two instalments.

3. exams & enrollment dates

To apply for the Medicine or Dentistry program at UPJS in Košice, candidates must have completed secondary school.

The entrance exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions: 100 in Biology and 100 in Chemistry. The questions are at the level of secondary school education, allowing candidates to prepare confidently and thoroughly for the test.

The exam lasts 2.5 hours. All questions come exclusively from a fixed pool of 1,200 questions (600 in Biology and 600 in Chemistry), which you can purchase from us to prepare effectively. This preparation enables candidates to achieve a 90–100% score without difficulty.

In 2026, the entrance exams for Medicine and Dentistry at UPJS in Košice will take place on four dates:

1. 17 June 2026 in Košice (registration open until 3 June 2026)
2. 8 August 2026 in Kraków (registration open until 24 July 2026)
3. 12 August 2026 in Košice (registration open until 29 July 2026)
4. 29 August 2026 in Warsaw (registration open until 14 August 2026)

Please note: The exam on 29 August in Warsaw is the final opportunity to take the entrance exam for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Students who wish to transfer from another university should plan to take the exam as early as possible (preferably in June or early August), as additional time is needed to submit applications for subject recognition and credit transfers. Each candidate can take the entrance exam for their chosen program (Medicine or Dentistry) only once per year. However, some candidates choose to take the exam for both Medicine and Dentistry to secure an additional study opportunity or to check their level of knowledge before the main exam.

The fee for taking the medical entrance exam is €30. The university will send the student an email inviting them to the entrance exam approximately two weeks before the selected exam date.

Required score for admission:
• General Medicine: 570 points (waiting list: 520 points),
• Dental Medicine: 620 points (waiting list: 570 points).

Documents before entrance exam:

1. Signed AIS application – the application is completed electronically and must then be printed and signed. The procedure is not very pleasant or easy. If you have any problems with AIS (or do not want to do it yourself), please call or write to us — we will help.

2. Signed application regarding the exam date and place: [CLICK AND DOWNLOAD]

3. Medical certificate confirming good mental and physical health, allowing the candidate to undertake medical studies and perform the profession after graduation. The date of issuance of the certificate must not be older than 3 months from the date of document submission: [CLICK AND DOWNLOAD]

4. Copy of passport or ID card.

5. Confirmation of payment of the exam fee (payment details below).

6. A sheet with personal details: full name, email address, exam date, and phone number.

Documents after passed exam

After successfully passing the exam:

1. Secondary school leaving certificate and matriculation certificate – original or a notarized copy issued in Slovakia, plus a sworn translation into Slovak performed in Slovakia.

2. Birth certificate – original or a notarized copy issued in Slovakia, plus a certified translation into Slovak performed in Slovakia.

3. Passport-size photograph.

The submitted documents remain in the university’s archive and are not subject to return.
