The University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice (UVLF) is a renowned public university in eastern Slovakia, known for its strong academic focus on veterinary medicine, animal science, cynology, pharmacy, and food safety. As a single-faculty university, it provides a unique, specialized environment for students pursuing careers related to animal health and life sciences.
The institution’s roots date back to 1949, when it was founded as the Veterinary College in Košice following an act of the Slovak National Council. The first lecture took place on October 5, 1949, marking the beginning of veterinary education in Slovakia. This milestone made UVLF the first and only veterinary school in the country, and the second such institution in former Czechoslovakia after Brno’s Veterinary College (established in 1918).
Today, UVLF continues its long tradition of excellence, combining academic rigor with practical training. It remains the only university in Slovakia offering full veterinary programs, attracting both Slovak and international students. Its modern campus, experienced faculty, and international cooperation make it a leading choice for those passionate about animal health, pharmaceutical science, and food safety.

The Veterinary program at University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice is a 6-year program taught in English.
The tuition fee is €8950 per year.
Registration for the academic year is conditional upon the proof of payment of the university fees (which are annually approved by the Academic Senate of UVMP in Košice and announced in the Internal Regulation No. 38). Payments are made by bank transfer and proof of payment should take the form of a payment certificate. Tuition fee can be paid in maximum of two equal instalments – the first one has to be paid prior to the registration day stipulated for the given academic year, the second one has to be paid prior to the end of the education period of the first semester of the given academic year.

Full upper secondary education or full specialised upper secondary education qualification entitling the applicant to higher education study, attested by certificate (for example, General Certificate of Education, Matriculation Certificate, Certificate for Upper Secondary Education and Training, International Baccalaureate Diploma, Leaving Certificate, etc.).
2. Written entrance examination from subjects Biology and Chemistry.
3. Written confirmation on work in organizations related to chosen study programme, i.e. work with private veterinarians – such confirmation is optional, but if sent together with application, is evaluated 5 points on top of points gained from entrance exams).

Written confirmation on work in organizations related to chosen study programme, i.e. work with private veterinarians with minimum duration of 6 months – such confirmation is optional, but if sent together with application, is evaluated 5 points on top of points gained from entrance exams (form to be found here).

Upon reception of evaluation outcome, deliver by post to the Study Office originals of the following documents:
1. Application form (completed properly in capital letters and signed by hand)
2. Copy of valid passport or copy of valid ID
3. Receipt for the payment of application fee
4. Verified and certified (apostilled/legalized/superlegalized) copy of upper secondary education certificate with transcript
5. Verified and certified (apostilled/legalized/superlegalized) copies of your up to date study records (i.e. transcripts from all years at High school)
6. Written confirmation on work in organizations related to chosen study programme, i.e. work with private veterinarians with minimum duration of 6 months – such confirmation is optional, but if sent together with application, is evaluated 5 points on top of points gained from entrance exams (form to be found here)

Upon reception of required documentation, an invitation letter to the entrance examination is issued to you.
⚪ 6th STEP
Upon reception of invitation letter, take entrance examination.
⚪ 7th STEP
Wait for information about the examination results and in case of successful results, acceptance letter is issued to you.
⚪ 8th STEP
Register at UVMP in Košice.
⚪ IN ADDITION
Requirement for verification and certification (apostilization/legalization/superlegalization)
Every applicant must submit officially verified and certified copy of the upper secondary education certificate with transcript and verified and certified copies of transcripts from all years at High school.
Type of verification and certification of the documents depend on the country where they were issued and existence of international agreement between Slovakia and this country on mutual recognition of documents on education.
Applicants need to get “Apostille” on the original document on education (please check with the authority giving apostille). The certificate must be in the official language of the country where it has been issued. Apostilled certificate in English language issued by High school is also acceptable.
In case the country does not issue Apostille, the applicants must have the documents „superlegalized“. Superlegalization is done by the Ministry of Education, followed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and finally by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in that country or in the country which acts on its behalf.
Exceptions are applicants who have completed their upper secondary education in the following countries: Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, France and Czech Republic. Applicants from these countries should provide only the notary authorized copy of the document.

Apostilled/legalized/superlegalized documents on upper secondary education must be delivered to the Study Office prior to the registration to study.
Verified and certified documents on upper secondary education need to be also translated to Slovak language by Slovak court translator. The translation can be done in Slovakia after applicant´s registration to study. On request, the Study Office can provide student with details of company based in Košice offering translation services.
